Have you ever driven through a neighborhood and saw a majestic beast milling about? And even though it seemed unlikely to just be hanging out, you couldn’t help but slow down for a better look? After realizing it’s not the real thing, you may feel a little silly, but imagine if you called the cops and they actually used deadly force on the creature before figuring out it’s a lawn ornament.
Just such an event recently took place in Kansas City. Local law enforcement responded to a call that there was an alligator lurking around a suburban pond. Police say that, from a distance, the creature, which seemed to be hiding among some weeds, seemed to be the real McCoy.
Not wanting to take any chances…or apparently get close enough to investigate…an officer plugged the gator in the head. After provoking no reaction from the animal, a second shot was delivered, which merely ricocheted. It was then that the officer realized there was more concrete than threat to the alligator and went in for a look.
It turns out, the alligator was placed on the property by a landowner none to keen on children trespassing near his pond. Maybe he should just build a fence or buy a sign next time. Having the po-po shooting up your yard has to decrease your property values.
